Preparing for Your Newborn Session

So you booked a newborn session. Now what?

If you’re anything like me, you’re wondering what to expect during a D2D Focus newborn session. Read on for tips to prepare for your shoot so we can have a happy, sleepy baby which equals beautiful photos.

How long does a newborn session typically last?

We schedule 2.5 hours for our newborn sessions. This ensures we are not rushing. It gives Mom plenty of time to feed and change diapers as necessary and allows for a few different setups. All babies and all sessions are different. Your baby may need a little less or a little more time. Please prepare.

Do you use props?

We love props for newborn photography. We use baskets, beds, lovies, tons of stretch blankets/wraps, etc. All the props and blankets we are using will be cleaned and sanitized.

Can I bring my own prop?

If you have a prop you would like to use, please let me know in advance so I can plan. I like to have an outline for your session previous to your shoot time.

What should I bring to the session?

Please bring a pacifier (if baby uses one), bottles (or Mom ?), comb or brush, a favorite blanket if you want it photographed.

Can I bring others with me?

We ask that only those who are being photographed and mom and dad come to the newborn session. It’s best to have a calm environment, too many people may overwhelm the baby. Unless young siblings are being photographed with baby, please keep them home.

How should I prepare my baby for the shoot?

  1.  Try to keep baby up for a couple hours before our shoot so that when he gets to the studio he/she is nice and tired.
  2. Feed baby right before you leave so he/she is full OR feel free to feed him once you arrive. The goal is for the baby to be asleep for the majority of the shoot.

Please feel free to email or call us with any other questions.
